At the beginning of March the RUBRIC Russian school in Worcester merrily celebrated the end of the winter months and the coming of spring. Shrove Tuesday and International Women's Day on the 8th of March were celebrated by students, teachers and parents alike with a wonderful concert and traditional tea and pancakes. The students performed the dances "Snowy winter" and "The three princesses" to the music of P. Tchaikovsky, previously performed at the festival of Russian culture at the Hive library in February. The parents and teachers were also entertained by the top class of the school, who read the poems "The stolen sun" and "The Telephone" by K.Chukovskiy, bringing back fond childhood memories for many of the parents. The children showed a great example to the younger students with their confident and engaging recitals of the poems. The short poems from the series "Toys" by Agnia Barto, read with great enthusiasm by the younger members of the school, brought smiles to the faces of many of the parents. To round off the concert all the students sang one final song together which they dedicated to their parents and the staff of the school. The school's Principal Nadezhda Loginova awarded certificates and edible prizes to the children who gave outstanding performances on the Day of Russian Culture in Worcester and the Maslenitsa (Pancake Day) festival in London. The pancakes, cooked by our school coordinator Tatiana Pain, were highly commended by all. As a result everyone happily indulged in pancakes with jam and exchanged their own pancake recipes and tips with one another. |
